"Intelligent Gates" were set up at each port gate. An integrated technological infrastructure consisting of a set of sensors and telecommunication devices. "Intelligent Gates" ensure the continuous detection of passing vehicles at the port gates, and double check these data with the stored ones entered in S.I.T.I.P. by users.

Intelligent Gates integrate technologies like OCR (Optical Character Recognition), RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and HiperLAN to transmit data between gates and S.I.T.I.P. nodes.

Thanks to these technologies, the Intelligent Gate is able to recognize and store both the the plate numbers of passing vehicles, and the the id-number of transported containers. Through the RFID readers system, when a vehicle pass the gate, a series of information, appropriately loaded before in an on-board "tag" referred to the transported (possibly dangerous) goods and the vector, is transferred to the Intelligent Gate system.
