BACKGROUND

Thanks to the Italian government and European Union financial resources, in the ports of Bari, Taranto, Brindisi and Gallipoli (but soon will be involved other major ports of the Adriatic Sea and Ionian Sea) an operational headquarter coordinates all incoming and outgoing goods transaction by processing encrypted information sent to navigators.

Thanks to this system, carrying out all operations related to the exchange of goods will be easier: complete customs bill, send and receive mail on board and in the office, handle and transport orders also from a security point of view, monitoring the location of dangerous goods. With so many benefits. Example: a truck driver may save about 4 hours, maintaining the anonymity of data. And with the intelligent gates system, a sensor installed in the port customs office can read the plate number of incoming and outcoming vehicles by connecting the corresponding file. A real time map of vehicles moving in the port area is also available on-line.

Recipients of this service will be first and foremost the port authorities and operational control agents. The advantages include an immediate costs reduction relating to the exchange of documents and goods, an increasing of quickness in obtaining licences and a simplification of procedures with a lot of time and resources saved. Not least, the increased security in port areas.
