PROPOSED SYSTEM

The Integrated Telematic Information System of the Ports has been realized with the aim to create a Virtual Service Center within which each actor involved in the port activities, be it a private or public entity, could have its own "always on-line" operational office. Thanks to this Service Center which brings together in the network all the actors, any office can carry on its daily business and interact in real time, directly and confidentially with each one of the other virtual offices in the "System".

With S.I.T.I.P. will be easier to carry out operations related to the exchange of goods: complete and submit customs bills, manage, transport orders or follow the map on digital carriage of dangerous goods. With so many benefits. "A truck driver, for example, - says Alberto Zara, consultant of the Apulia Region and Director of Performance - sending the documents before his arrival in the port, through the SITIP e-services, can save up to 3 or 4 hours in the procedures for the customs gates being sure to maintain the data privacy. With the "Intelligent gates" installed in the four ports in Apulia, then, the Customs Police can read automatically and remotely, the plate number of incoming and outcoming vehicles by crossing the corresponding file".

A regional Data Processing Center (CED) and a "web oriented" cross-platform software, configured for a real applicative cooperation with other Intelligent Transport System (ITS) at national level, provide to obtain an information system that simplifies and automates all the permitting and customs procedures, making it accessible via the web in order to manage the daily documents and practices of all maritime and port operators.

The system also enables the planning and the real time monitoring of the transport of dangerous goods and to remotely manage any emergencies as well.

The user is also able to view an interactive "real time" map of ships operating in the port with related information.

Among the major recipients of e-services offered by SITIP there are, of course, in addition to traders who operate in the transport sector, the Port Authorities and the employees of the operational control. Within the immediate results from the introduction of integrated information system of ports, there will be a costs reduction relating to the exchange of documents and goods, the achievement of licences, the simplification of procedures, also increasing security in port areas, it is to say, saving time and resources.
