The realization of the Integrated Telematic Information System for the Apulian Ports has required substantial technical, economic and organizational efforts. It was relevant, in fact, the quality and the quantity of the human resources involved in the project: over 90 people involved, including coordinators, planners, specialists in software development, specialists in electronic systems for automation and remote control, network specialist for telecommunications and qualified installers. Due to the complexity of the project, because of technical and organizational issues, the SITIP project took nearly 19 months of work for the completion and testing.

• April 2007 - Launch of the project.
• June 2007 - Completion of the executive project.
• July 2007 - Start of the development of the software application platforms. Start of procedures to grant authorization for the installation of technological infrastructures in port areas of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto.
• November 2007 - Installing and configuring the regional Server Farm.
• December 2007 - Start the installation of the technological infrastructures in port areas.
• August 2008 - Completion of the development of software application platforms.
• September 2008 – Integration, in SITIP project, of the port of Gallipoli.
• October 2008 - Completion of installation of the technological infrastructures in port areas.
• November 2008 - Testing. Start up of the information system. Start of the activities to promote the project. Start of the users training. Start of the activities' of maintenance.
• June 2009 - Testing a new application module integrated into SITIP: ARTS (Access Rail Transfer from SITIP).

During the trial phase, which began immediately after the official test of the system in November 2008, a lot of activities were carried out to assure the smooth start-up of SITIP: from training users to their web registration to the system, from the load and tuning tests to the systems hardware and software platforms management to the development of customizations of the texts within the web portal required by some user.
