According to the official statistics, the port of Taranto is the second in Italy about freight traffic volumes and it plays an important role both from a business point of view than a strategic one.

The facilities at the cargo port and industrial area are located along the north west side of Mar Grande (Great Sea) and immediately outside it, heading west.

The most recent part has been made up the Container Terminal located at the Multifuncion Harbour at the extreme west of the port area.

This is a very modern frame, complete with computerized systems and control tower, with a capacity of storage and cargo handling of approximately 2,000,000 TEU / year.

In the Mar Grande there are also facilities for the transportation of crude oil, intended to fuel the refinery through some sub sea pipelines.

The Marina is situated on Sant'Eligio Harbour area, in the Old Town part overlooking the Mar Grande. This location allows to the boaters the observation of lots historical, cultural, archaeological and architectural elements.
