The Outer Port is limited at the south side by the mainland, at the east side by the Pedagne islands, the west side by Saint Andrew's island and the Costa Morena dock and at the north side by the dam of Punta Riso.
Access to the port stands between the dam of Punta Riso and the small Traversa island. In the south side there is the Montedison dock (840 m) reported in the head by a red lighthouse. As for the winds, however, in Outer Port dominate southeast and north-east winds. Winds from the greek and greek-east cause swell only at the Central and Customs docks. The currents are southward along the east coast and reach strong speeds with winds of the I and VI quadrant.
Middle Port is bounded by the Costa Morena Dam and the Forte a Mare one, in the north north side by the Seno Bocca di Puglia and in the west side by the Pignolati channel.
Access stands between the dams of Costa Morena and Forte a Mare. Middle the Port has the same exposure to winds of the Outer Port and the currents are generally weak, but increase significantly the speed in presence of prevailing winds.
The Inner Port consists of two long arms that encircle the old town to the north (Seno di Ponente) and east (Seno di Levante). Access is from the Pignolati Channel. The Inner Port is affected by winds from the north and north-east.
