The S.I.T.I.P. is set up as a network of users whose purpose is to exchange information on procedures for the transport of goods in the apulian ports. The S.I.T.I.P., in concrete terms, allows the IT cooperation among ports. The Regional Data Processing Center (CED/DPC) constitutes the core of the Integrated Telematic Information System of apulian Ports. The CED/DPC contains all the servers, located within the rack cabinets, each of them with specific processing functions. The CED/DPC hardware architecture consists of:
A Virtual Private Network (VPN), specifically designed and built, connect the CED/DPC to the individual nodes located at the ports. This safe and effective telecommunication network allows the exchange of encrypted data and makes possible the "online cooperation" among many stakeholders of the apulian ports system.
At CED/DPC, moreover, there is an always active back-up link through ADSL technology, which manage the data transmission in case of fall of the main link. Even in case of fall of the back-up link, an additional back-up link through a dial-up ISDN will be activated.
